Rhodes University (RU) Undergraduate Prospectus 2027

2027

Undergraduate

Rhodes University (RU) Undergraduate Prospectus 2027 Summary At a Quick Glance Minimum APS Score Range: You will need an APS between 34 and 45+, depending on your chosen faculty and degree. An APS of 45 or above gets you a provisional offer at most faculties, while scores from 34 to 44 may still be considered at the Dean's discretion. Application Fee: The prospectus does not publish a fixed application fee. The exact deposit amount will be stated in your individual letter of offer once you are accepted. Application Dates: Applications open on 01 April 2027 and close on 30 September 2027. There is no separate late or medical deadline — Rhodes does not offer a Medicine degree. Faculty Requirements Breakdown Faculty of Commerce You will need a minimum APS of 34 for extended commerce degrees and up to 45 for a provisional offer on most programmes. The Bachelor of Business Science is the most competitive, requiring Mathematics at Level 6 (70–79%) and English at Level 4. The standard BCom and BEco degrees accept Mathematics at Level 4, making them more accessible if your maths mark is in the 50–59% range. An Extended Studies BCom is available over four years for students with an APS of 34–37 from disadvantaged backgrounds. Faculty of Humanities You will need an APS between 34 and 45 across all Humanities degrees, including the BA, Bachelor of Social Science, Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Bachelor of Music. Every Humanities degree requires English Home Language at 60% or English First Additional Language at 65% — this is non-negotiable across the board. If you are applying for Fine Art or Music, note that some programmes also require a portfolio as part of your application. Faculty of Education You will need an APS of at least 39 for Dean's discretion consideration, and 44 or above for a provisional offer on the four-year Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching. English at Level 4 is required, along with Mathematics at Level 3 or Mathematical Literacy at Level 4. If you already hold a bachelor's degree, you can also apply for the one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), which prepares you to teach at Senior Phase (Grades 7–9) or FET level (Grades 10–12). Faculty of Law You will need an APS of 40 to be considered at the Dean's discretion, and 45 or above for a provisional offer on the four-year LLB degree. English requirements are higher here than in other faculties — Home Language at Level 5 (60–69%) or First Additional Language at Level 6 (70–79%). Note that Rhodes admits only a limited number of students directly into first-year LLB. Most students who want to study law first complete a general degree in another faculty, then continue into LLB, so a change of direction in first year does not cost you an academic year. Faculty of Pharmacy This is one of the more demanding faculties to enter. You will need an APS of 40–44 for Dean's discretion consideration, with Mathematics, Life Sciences, and Physical Science all at Level 5 (60–69%). For a provisional offer at 45+, all three subjects must be at Level 6 (70–79%). There are no substitutions — all three science subjects are compulsory. The BPharm is a four-year degree registered at NQF Level 8, and the curriculum is set by the South African Pharmacy Council. Faculty of Science You will need an APS between 39 and 44 for Dean's discretion, and 45 or above for a provisional offer on the three-year BSc. One of the strengths of the BSc at Rhodes is its flexibility — you can combine science majors with subjects from Commerce, Humanities, or Law. The Bachelor of Information Systems (BScInfoSys) requires English at Level 5, Mathematics at Level 4, and Physical Science at Level 5. The VarsityToolkit Insider Tips When calculating your APS for Rhodes University , do not include Life Orientation — it is explicitly excluded from the points calculation. You still need to achieve at least Level 4 (50%) in Life Orientation to be accepted, but it adds zero to your APS. Many applicants miscalculate by including it and overestimate their score. Write the National Benchmark Test (NBT) before your final matric results come out. If your APS falls in the Dean's discretion range (34–44), your NBT result can be the deciding factor in whether you are offered a place. It can also work in your favour if your final exam results come in lower than expected. All applicants should write the AQL (Academic and Quantitative Literacy) test. If you are applying to Commerce, Pharmacy, or Science, you must also write the MAT (Mathematics) test. Merit scholarships for NSC candidates are automatic — you do not need to apply separately. If your final Grade 12 APS is 47 or above, Rhodes applies the scholarship to your student account without any additional paperwork on your part.

Life Orientation is usually completely excluded from this calculation. However , if you are applying from a Quintile 1 to 3 school and score above 50% in Life Orientation, NMU will add a flat 7-point bonus to your final AS. Don't guess your eligibility manually—run your exact subjects through the NMU APS Calculator we built to get your precise AS out of 600 and see if you qualify for the Quintile bonus.

Stellenbosch University (SU) 2027 Prospectus

2027

Undergraduate

Stellenbosch University (SU) 2027 Prospectus Summary The official Stellenbosch University 2027 Undergraduate Prospectus outlines a rigorous selection criteria for the upcoming academic session. As a high-demand institution, SU explicitly states that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee placement, as all degrees are now designated as selection programmes. The 2026/2027 session is notably defined by a major shift in entrance testing and highly specific faculty formulas. National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) A critical update for 2027 applicants is that National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) are not required for admission to the majority of programmes. This exemption applies to most faculties; however, NBTs remain mandatory for all Faculty of Law programmes. Additionally, applicants from the School of Tomorrow, the South African-based American High School Diploma, and all online schools must still complete the NBTs. For Law applicants, the NBT AQL must be written before the 31 July deadline. The Engineering "Selection Mark" Formula Admission to the Faculty of Engineering relies on a specialized calculation known as the Selection Mark (SM). While the minimum NSC aggregate for Engineering is 70%, the university uses the following formula to rank candidates out of a maximum of 800 points: Selection Mark = Mathematics % + Physical Sciences % + (6 x Matric Average). You can use our free optimized SU APS Calculator . The "Matric Average" is derived from the six best subjects excluding Life Orientation. Historically, a selection mark of 600 to 620+ has been necessary for a competitive chance of admission. Key 2027 Dates On-Campus Open Day: Saturday, 18 April 2026. Online Open Day: 20 April to 31 July 2026. Law NBT Deadline: Assessments must be completed before 31 July 2026. Visual Arts Portfolio: Prescribed portfolio must be submitted by 1 September 2026. Prospective students are encouraged to utilize the SU Client Service Centre (+27 21 808 9111) for specific queries, as the university reserves the right to adjust these requirements as needed.

Your TOEFL or IELTS result must be no more than 2 years old , but your NBT Academic Literacy result has a 3-year validity window . More critically, if you are writing TOEFL or IELTS, your score must physically arrive at the UCT Admissions Office by 12 January 2027 — not just be submitted by that date. Build significant lead time into your test booking. For graduate-specific NBT requirements, you need 68% or above on the Graduate Academic Literacy test and 70% or above on the Graduate Quantitative test — thresholds that are higher than standard undergraduate NBT benchmarks and which many applicants are unaware of.

The VarsityToolkit Insider Tip Life Orientation does not count toward your APS — ever. UCT explicitly excludes it from all APS and FPS calculations across every faculty. Students frequently inflate their self-calculated APS by including their Life Orientation mark. Take it out before you assess your eligibility. For the Faculties of Science and Health Sciences, the scoring goes further: your Mathematics and Physical Sciences percentages are either doubled (Science FPS out of 800) or combined with your three NBT scores (Health Sciences FPS out of 900), meaning the standard 600-point APS you calculated from school results is not the figure UCT actually uses to rank you. Recalculate using the faculty-specific formula before deciding whether to apply. But not to worry, our well optimized APS calculator can help you do the heavy lifting.

University of Free State (UFS) 2027 Prospectus

2027

Undergraduate

University of Free State (UFS) 2027 Prospectus Summary The University of the Free State (UFS) 2027 Undergraduate Prospectus provides a detailed framework for prospective students, emphasizing the institution's North Star mission to create responsible societal futures. As a research-led and student-centered university, UFS has structured its 2027 intake around the Vision 130 strategy, ensuring that academic excellence is coupled with a culture of care across its Bloemfontein, Qwaqwa, and South campuses. For the 2027 academic year, admission to all undergraduate programs is based on merit selection. This process begins with applicants holding the highest Admission Point (AP) scores and continues until the limited spaces in each program are filled. The prospectus clarifies that meeting the minimum admission requirements is merely the first step and does not guarantee a place, as every faculty operates under strict enrollment capacities. A significant focus of the 2027 guide is the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Law, both of which maintain some of the highest entry thresholds in the country. The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) requires a minimum AP of 36, while the Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc), accredited by SAICA with a Level 1 rating, requires an AP of 34. The Faculty of Law, situated in the judicial capital of Bloemfontein, requires an AP of 33 for its four-year LLB program, allowing students to use either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy for admission. The 2027 UFS prospectus also highlights the Extended Curriculum Programmes (ECP). These pathways are designed for students who show academic potential but fall just short of the mainstream admission criteria. The ECP serves as an academic lifeline, integrating support and skills development into the coursework. Prospective students are advised that they must apply for mainstream programs to be considered for ECP placement, which is also subject to merit-based selection. Finally, the prospectus outlines critical closing dates that students must observe. High-demand selection programs in the School of Clinical Medicine and School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences close as early as 31 May 2026. General non-selection programs close on 30 September 2026. Students are encouraged to use official tools like the VarsityToolkit APS Calculator to verify their scores against these specific 2027 criteria before submitting their applications.

University of Johannesburg (UJ) 2027 Prospectus

2027

Undergraduate

University of Johannesburg (UJ) 2027 Quick Summary Application Deadline: 31 October 2026 at 12:00 Application Fee: Free (No application fee is charged for online or paper-based applications) Admission Requirements Minimum APS: 19 (for Extended Diplomas) to 26+ (for standard Degrees) Competitive APS: 30+ Key subject requirements: English and Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy are critical for most courses. Any important notes: Life Orientation is NOT counted when calculating your total APS. Provisional admission relies on your final Grade 11 results, while final admission depends on your final Grade 12 results. Most Students Miss This Meeting the exact minimum APS score does not guarantee you a place at UJ. The university has a strictly limited number of spaces approved for first-year students. If your score sits exactly on the borderline for competitive faculties like Health Sciences, Engineering, or Law, your chances of acceptance are incredibly low. You are competing against thousands of students with higher scores. Always aim to beat the minimum APS by 2 to 3 points. If your score is low, urgently consider applying for Extended Degree or Diploma programmes as a safer entry way out. What Can You Study? Here is a quick look at some popular UJ degrees and their requirements: BCom Accounting (CA) — APS 33+ (Requires Maths level 5) LLB (Law) — APS 31+ (Requires Maths level 4 or Maths Lit level 5) BSc Information Technology — APS 30+ (Requires Maths level 5 and Phys Sci level 4) Bachelor of Nursing — APS 30+ (Requires Maths level 4 and Life Sci level 4) BEng Civil Engineering — APS 28+ (Requires Maths level 5 and Phys Sci level 5) Bachelor of Arts (BA) — APS 27+ Don’t Guess — Check Your APS Don't let a simple miscalculation cost you your university spot. MBA and DBA close 31 October 2026 . Subject to supervisor availability for research degrees. The VarsityToolkit Insider Tip The free tuition trap for research students: Full-time Masters and PhD students pay no tuition at UKZN — but only if they complete within the minimum prescribed period (one year for Masters, three years for PhD). Students who take longer are charged approximately R18,747 per year retroactively on a continuing fees schedule. Most students planning a "free" research degree underestimate the time required and end up paying. Budget for at least one continuing year as a contingency, and confirm the exact fee schedule with your College before registering.

University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) 2027 Undergraduate Prospectus

2027

Undergraduate

University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Undergraduate Prospectus Summary This prospectus covers undergraduate study across four Colleges and five campuses: Edgewood (Education), Howard College (Law, Engineering, Nursing, Humanities), Medical School (Medicine), Pietermaritzburg (Agriculture, Science, Humanities, Law, Management), and Westville (Science, Management, Health Sciences). Application Fee South African applicants (via CAO, on time): R250 South African applicants (via CAO, from 1 November 2026): R470 Returning UKZN students (direct to UKZN): R210 (late: R420) SADC and African international applicants: R490 International applicants outside Africa: US$153 Closing Dates MBChB (Medicine): 30 June 2026 — earliest deadline in the prospectus. UKZN does not consider international applications for Medicine. All other programmes (Semester 1, 2027): 30 September 2026 Semester 2 entry: 30 April 2027 (limited spaces, apply directly to UKZN) No walk-in applications in January 2027. APS Calculation — One Rule That Matters UKZN excludes Life Orientation from your APS. You will need to recalculate without it — your LO mark counts as zero. The maximum APS is 48. Selection runs from 48 downward until spaces are filled, so the published minimums are floors, not targets. Aim well above them. College Breakdown College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science APS range: 26–48 depending on programme Engineering degrees: Maths and Physical Science at Level 5 (65%+) required. English and LO at Level 4. BSc Agric programmes: Maths, English, LO at Level 4 plus Agricultural Science, Life Science, or Physical Science at Level 4. BSc Stream (Mathematics track): Maths Level 5 required. Engineering Access Programme (APS 28): Alternative entry for Quintile 1–2 school applicants. Maths, Physical Science, and English at Level 4 minimum. Very limited places. College of Health Sciences APS range: 30–48 for most programmes MBChB: Maths, Physical Science, Life Science, and English at Level 5 with at least 65% aggregate. Six-year degree. No international applications considered. Pharmacy and Optometry: APS 33–48. Life Science, Physical Science, Maths, and English at Level 4. Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Audiology, Speech-Language Therapy: APS 30–48. Maths and Life Science or Physical Science at Level 3. Choices 1 to 3 on your CAO form only. All Health Sciences programmes: Must be listed in your top three CAO choices to be considered. College of Humanities APS range: 20–48 BEd (Foundation Phase): isiZulu at Level 4 required — the only undergraduate programme at UKZN with a specific language requirement beyond English. BA/BSoc Sc (General): APS 28+. One designated subject at Level 5. BA Music Foundation (APS 22): Access route for students with no formal musical training. Audition required for all music programmes. Extended Curriculum (BSoc Sc): APS 20+, Quintile 1–2 schools only. College of Law and Management Studies APS range: 26–48 LLB: English Home Language Level 5 or First Additional Language Level 6. Maths Level 3 or Mathematical Literacy Level 5. BCom (General): Maths at Level 4, English and LO at Level 4. APS 30+. Bachelor of Business Science (Finance/Investment Science): Maths at Level 6. APS 33+. The most demanding Commerce entry requirement. BCom Extended Curriculum (4 years): APS 26–28, Quintile 1–3 schools preferred. The VarsityToolkit Insider Tip UKZN does not require or consider NBT results — stated explicitly in the prospectus. If another source tells you to write the NBT for a UKZN application, that information is wrong. Do not spend time or money on it for this institution. What UKZN does require that catches applicants off guard: Health Sciences programmes only consider you if the programme appears in your top three CAO choices . If you list a Health Sciences programme fourth or later, your application will not be processed for that programme — regardless of your APS. With six choices available on CAO, the temptation is to load Health Sciences options across all six. You cannot. Prioritise carefully and confirm your three Health Sciences choices are positions one, two, and three before submitting.

University of Limpopo (UL) Postgraduate Prospectus 2027

2027

University of Limpopo

Postgraduate

University of Limpopo (UL) Postgraduate Prospectus Summary This prospectus covers postgraduate study only (Honours, Postgraduate Diplomas, Master's, and Doctoral degrees). UL entry is based entirely on your prior degree and percentage averages. Application Fee Current UL students (already registered): Free South African applicants (new): R200 International applicants (new): R750 Pay via Standard Bank, Account No. 030131405, Branch 051001. Use your ID number or passport number as the reference — not your name. The Universal Admission Rule Across every faculty and every programme, 60% is the minimum average you will need in your relevant major subject from your previous degree. The only exception is the PGDip in Accountancy (SAICA CTA route), which uses 55%. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission. All postgraduate applicants go through a departmental selection process. For Master's and Doctoral programmes, supervisor availability is a real constraint — if no supervisor is available for your proposed research topic, the department cannot accept you, regardless of your marks. Confirm supervisor availability before you apply. Faculty Breakdown Faculty of Health Sciences Schools: Health Care Sciences | Medicine Entry for Honours / PGDip: Relevant Bachelor's degree + 60% average in the major subject. Entry for Master's (MNurs, MPharm, MOptom, MSc Dietetics, MSc Medical Sciences, MPH): A relevant 4-year Bachelor's degree or Honours equivalent + 60% average in the major subjects. Entry for MMed (clinical registrar programmes — Anaesthesiology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Psychiatry, and others): You must hold an MBChB or equivalent degree, be registered with the HPCSA as a medical practitioner in Independent Practice, and be appointed to a Registrar's post recognised by the HPCSA. The university does not appoint you to that post — you must secure it through a health facility independently. Non-surgical MMed minimum duration: 4 years (max 6 years) Surgical MMed minimum duration: 5 years (max 7 years) Entry for PhD / Doctoral degrees (PhD Nursing, DOptom, DPharm, PhD Medical Sciences): A relevant Master's degree in the discipline. Note: For the Master of Nursing (MNurs), you will also need active registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a registered Nurse Practitioner. This is a professional body requirement on top of your academic qualifications — without it, your application will not be considered. Faculty of Humanities Schools: Education | Languages & Communication Studies | Social Sciences Entry for BEdHons (Curriculum Studies, Educational Management, Educational Studies, Language Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Technology Education, Adult & Community Education): A 4-year professional teaching degree in the relevant phase and subject, OR an appropriate Bachelor's degree in the subject area plus a recognised professional teaching qualification, with 60% in the disciplinary area. For BEdHons in Language Education specifically: you must have majored in English, Sepedi, Tshivenda, or Xitsonga. Entry for PGCE (FET Teaching): An approved Bachelor's degree of at least 360 credits, covering two school-related subjects. Specialisation streams include Languages & Social Sciences, Economic Management Sciences, Mathematics/Science/Technology, and Languages & Life Orientation. Entry for Advanced Diploma in Adult and Community Education and Training (ACET) Teaching: A 360-credit Level 6 Diploma or National N-Diploma, or a Level 7 / Level 8 Bachelor's degree. Your undergraduate qualification must include at least two fields relevant to the ACET curriculum — one studied to second-year level and one to third-year level. Entry for BAHons (Communication Studies, English, African Languages, Media Studies, Translation Studies & Linguistics, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, Northern Sotho): Relevant Bachelor's degree + 60% in the final assessment of the appropriate subject. Entry for PGDip in Information Studies: Relevant Bachelor's degree in Information Studies or related discipline at NQF exit level 7. Entry for Master's (MEd, MA, MSW, MInf, MA African Languages, MA English Studies, MA Translation Studies & Linguistics, MA Clinical Psychology): Relevant Honours degree + 60% average. Entry for PhD: Relevant Master's degree. Note: The MA in Clinical Psychology requires a personal interview as a compulsory selection step — it is not a formality. A strong academic record gets you to the interview; it does not guarantee an offer. Cohort sizes for this programme are small and competition is high. Contact psych.clintraining@ul.ac.za early. Faculty of Management & Law Schools: Accountancy | Economics & Management | Law | Turfloop Graduate School of Leadership (TGSL) Entry for BComHons (Economics, Business Management, Human Resource Management), BDevHons (Planning & Management), BAdminHons (Public Administration): Relevant Bachelor's degree majoring in the relevant subject + 60% average in the final year modules of that subject. Entry for PGDip in Accountancy (SAICA CTA programme): A SAICA-accredited Bachelor's degree at NQF level 7 or 8, with at least 55% in Financial Accounting and an overall average of 55% across all four main courses. Note: this is the only programme across UL that uses 55% rather than 60%. Entry for MCom (Accounting, Economics, Business Management, Human Resource Management), MDev (Planning & Management), MPAM: Relevant Honours degree + 60% average. Entry for LLM in Labour Law and LLM in Development & Management Law (taught, with mini-dissertation): LLB or equivalent 4-year law degree + 60% aggregate in preceding degree. Entry for LLM by Research: LLB or equivalent 4-year law degree + 60% aggregate. Entry for MBA (TGSL): Honours degree or equivalent at NQF Level 8 + 60% average + Matriculation Mathematics or an equivalent qualification in Mathematics or Statistics + a letter from your employer confirming you will be permitted to attend classes. Entry for DCom, DAdmin, LLD: Relevant Master's degree. Note: The MBA, MDev (TGSL), and MPAM programmes all require an employer letter as a hard admission requirement — not optional supporting documentation. If you are self-employed, between jobs, or in a role where your employer is unlikely to provide this letter, contact TGSL ( tgsl@ul.ac.za ) before applying to discuss your situation. Applying without this document wastes your R200 application fee. Faculty of Science & Agriculture Schools: Agricultural & Environmental Sciences | Mathematical & Computer Sciences | Molecular & Life Sciences | Physical & Mineral Sciences Entry for BScHons / BAgrManHons (Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology, Zoology, Aquaculture, Geography, Agricultural Economics, Animal Production, Plant Production, Agricultural Extension): Relevant Bachelor's degree in the disciplinary area + 60% average in the major subject. Entry for Master's — all MSc and MAgricMan programmes (Agricultural Economics, Animal Production, Agronomy, Horticulture, Soil Science, Plant Protection, Aquaculture, Geography, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology, Physiology & Environmental Health, Zoology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics): Relevant Honours degree or 4-year NQF Level 8 equivalent + 60% average. Entry for MSc in eScience: BSc Honours or equivalent specialising in Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science + 60% average. Note: this programme is offered in collaboration with other universities — places are not solely in UL's control. Entry for PhD: Relevant Master's degree in the discipline (60% average preferred). Note: The MSc in eScience is a multi-institution collaborative programme. You may meet UL's admission requirements and still not receive an offer if the collaborative allocation is full. Confirm space availability directly with the School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences ( DoSSMCS@ul.ac.za ) before submitting your application. The VarsityToolkit Insider Tip The supervisor trap that catches most postgraduate applicants at UL: For Honours and PGDip level, UL selects primarily on academic history — your marks open or close the door. But for Master's and Doctoral programmes, there is a second gate that the prospectus mentions quietly and most applicants discover too late: supervisor capacity . If the department has no available supervisor whose expertise matches your proposed research topic, you will not be admitted — regardless of your average, regardless of how early you applied. This is not a bureaucratic formality. It is a real resource constraint, and it catches applicants every year. What you should do: before submitting your application, email the relevant School's postgraduate office and ask two questions directly. First, is there a supervisor available for research in your area of interest? Second, if yes, can you have a brief conversation with that supervisor before you apply? A supervisor who has engaged with your proposal before your application arrives is significantly more likely to accept you. One who sees your name for the first time when the selection committee meets is not. The same principle applies to Doctoral applicants at the Turfloop Graduate School of Leadership — the MBA and MPAM selection process explicitly evaluates academic achievement, work experience, attitude, and motivation. A generic application scores poorly on the last two. Request the selection criteria from TGSL before you write your motivation letter.

University of Limpopo (UL) Prospectus 2027

2027

Undergraduate

At a Quick Glance Minimum APS Score Range: You will need an APS between 22 and 30, depending on your chosen degree and whether you enter an extended curriculum programme. Application Fee: The non-refundable online application handling fee is R200 for South African students and R750 for international students. Faculty Requirements Breakdown Faculty of Humanities You will need a minimum APS of 22 for extended programmes and up to 25 for main Bachelor of Arts and Education degrees. For the BEd in Senior Phase & FET Teaching (Mathematics, Science & Technology), you must achieve at least a Level 4 in Mathematics. Faculty of Management & Law You will need an APS ranging from 22 for extended commerce degrees up to a highly competitive 30 for the Bachelor of Accountancy and Bachelor of Laws (LLB). The Bachelor of Accountancy strictly requires Mathematics at Level 5. General BCom degrees require you to have at least a Level 3 in Mathematics or a Level 4 or 5 in Mathematical Literacy, depending on the specific stream. Faculty of Science & Agriculture Your APS Score must be between 22 (for extended programmes) and 26 (for mainstream Bachelor of Science degrees). Main BSc degrees (Physical, Mineral, Life, and Computer Sciences) require Mathematics at Level 5 and Physical Sciences at Level 5. The Bachelor of Agricultural Management accepts Mathematical Literacy at Level 5 or Mathematics at Level 3. Faculty of Health Sciences You will need an APS between 25 and 27 for this high-demand faculty. Medicine (MBChB), Pharmacy, and Optometry require Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences all at a minimum of Level 5. The Bachelor of Nursing requires at least a Level 4 in Mathematics or Level 5 in Mathematical Literacy, along with a Level 4 in Life Sciences. Make sure you qualify before applying: Check your exact APS with our UL APS Calculator . The VarsityToolkit Insider Tip When calculating your APS Score for the University of Limpopo, do not include Life Orientation—it is explicitly excluded from the calculation. Additionally, keep in mind that simply meeting the minimum APS for degrees in Education, Psychology, Social Work, and Medicine does not guarantee your 2027 Admission; you will also need to pass specific faculty selection tests to secure your spot.

University of Pretoria (UP) 2027 Prospectus

2027

University of Pretoria

Undergraduate

University of Pretoria (UP) 2027 Prospectus Summary For the 2027 intake, the university continues its decentralized approach, where admission requirements are governed by specific faculty boards. The overarching theme for 2027 is "Make Today Matter," focusing on provisional admission based on Grade 11 results to secure early placements in high-demand selection programmes. The UP Admission Point Score (APS) System The core of the UP admission process is the Admission Point Score (APS). This score is calculated using the achievement levels of six recognized NSC 20-credit subjects. Unlike some institutions, UP strictly excludes Life Orientation from the initial APS calculation . For the 2027 session, students must achieve a minimum level of 4 (50–59%) in English to be considered for most degree programmes. Important 2027 Admissions Timeline The University of Pretoria implements rigid closing dates for 2027. Students who fail to apply by these dates will not be considered, regardless of their APS score. Applications Open: 1 April 2026 Selection Programmes (Health/Vet/EBIT) Closing: 30 June 2026 Junior Tukkie (JT) Membership Applications: Continuous General Admissions Closing: 30 September 2026 Prospective students are highly encouraged to join the Junior Tukkie (JT) initiative, which provides academic support and career guidance to Grade 8–12 learners. This program is instrumental for those targeting selection-based degrees, as it helps students improve their marks in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Accounting. For final verification of requirements, students should use the official UP portal at www.up.ac.za /.

University of the Free State (UFS) 2027 Postgraduate Prospectus

2027

Postgraduate

University of the Free State (UFS) 2027 Postgraduate Prospectus Summary The University of the Free State (UFS) 2027 Postgraduate Prospectus serves as a strategic roadmap for advanced scholarship, anchored by the institution’s ambitious Vision 130 strategy. This framework aims to position UFS as a top-tier, research-led university in South Africa and globally by the year 2034. For the 2027 intake, the university emphasizes "Quality, Impact, and Care," focusing on creating responsible societal futures through high-impact research that addresses emerging global challenges. Central to the postgraduate experience at UFS is the Centre for Graduate Support (CGS), which acts as the academic backbone for Honours, Master's, and Doctoral students. The CGS provides a holistic support ecosystem, offering specialized workshops in academic writing, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and intellectual property management. Furthermore, the CGS manages critical funding streams, including internal UFS bursaries and NRF grants, to ensure that financial barriers do not hinder research excellence. The 2027 academic landscape is distributed across seven distinct faculties, each offering tailored pathways for specialization. The Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences highlights three key research areas: Natural, Agricultural, and Building Sciences, with a strong focus on sustainability and land rehabilitation. The Faculty of Health Sciences offers intensive research opportunities through its Schools of Clinical Medicine, Pathology, and Nursing, while the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences provides market-driven qualifications through the UFS Business School and specialized departments in Financial Planning Law. Admission for the 2027 session is primarily conducted through the official UFS online application portal. Prospective students are cautioned that meeting the minimum requirements—which typically involve a 60–65% weighted average in the preceding degree—does not guarantee placement due to strict faculty enrollment capacities. International applicants face additional requirements, including the mandatory verification of foreign qualifications by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and evidence of medical aid registered under the South African Medical Schemes Act. The prospectus also details essential logistical support, such as the Kovsie-Inn, which offers specialized luxury accommodation for postgraduate scholars on the Bloemfontein Campus. Financial planning is underscored by an estimated 2027 fee structure, with general Honours degrees projected at approximately R55,860 for SA and SADC students. Key 2027 application deadlines are clearly defined: international applications and general Honours/Postgraduate Diploma programs typically close on 31 August 2026. Prospective researchers are encouraged to consult faculty-specific guides to verify these dates, as specialized selection programs may have earlier cut-offs.

University of the Western Cape (UWC) 2027 Prospectus

2027

Undergraduate

University of the Western Cape (UWC) 2027 Quick Summary Application Deadline: 30 September 2026 for all programmes  Application Fee: Apply online via the UWC portal UWC Admission Requirements  Minimum UWC Points: 30 (for standard degrees like BCom or Nursing) Competitive UWC Points: 35 to 40+ (for Arts, Law, and Dentistry) Key subject requirements: You must have completed English (Home or First Additional Language) at Level 4. Any important notes: UWC does not use a standard APS. They use a unique, weighted "UWC Points System" where Mathematics, Life Orientation, and other subjects are scored differently based on your percentages. Most Students Miss This Meeting the minimum UWC point score does not guarantee you a place. UWC has highly competitive faculties. For example, Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) requires a massive 40 UWC points, plus Level 4s in Maths, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences. Physiotherapy requires 39 points. If you are applying for these, you need to score well above the minimum score to stand out. Also, be extremely careful with your Math choices: UWC scores Mathematics and Mathematics Literacy differently in their point system. If you have Maths Literacy, you usually need a much higher level (e.g., Level 6) to meet the same requirement as a Maths Level 4. What Can You Study at UWC? Here is a quick look at some popular UWC degrees and their minimum UWC point requirements: Bachelor of Nursing — 30+ Points (Requires Maths 4 or Maths Lit 6, Life Sci 4) BCom (3 Years) — 30+ Points (Requires Maths 4) BSc Computer Science — 33+ Points (Requires Maths 5 and Phys Sci/Life Sci/IT 4) Bachelor of Arts (BA) — 35+ Points Bachelor of Laws (LLB) — 37+ Points (Requires Maths 3 or Maths Lit 5) Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) — 40+ Points Don’t Guess — Check Your UWC Points Because UWC uses a unique weighted point system instead of a normal APS, manual calculations are risky. Calculate your exact UWC Points on VarsityToolkit by using our specialized UWC APS calculator It takes less than 60 seconds to know exactly where you stand.

Additionally, unlike many other universities, Wits gives double points for Mathematics and English if you achieve a Level 5 or higher (up to a maximum of 8 points per subject) for most programs in the Science and Engineering faculties. Be sure to check the specific weighting for your chosen degree before calculating your final score. If you have your results ready but aren't sure how the math adds up, we’ve made it simple for you. If you have more than seven subjects, they will automatically use your top seven (excluding LO) to give you the best possible score. You can use our UNIVEN APS calculator to save time.

For example, IT requires APS 26 with Maths but APS 28 with Maths Literacy — a 2-point gap that could be the difference between acceptance and rejection. If you are still in Grade 11 and have a choice, switching to Technical Mathematics (which is treated on par with pure Mathematics at VUT) may significantly widen your options. Additionally, the prospectus explicitly states that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance — early application is strongly advised since initial selection is based on Grade 11 or latest Grade 12 results, meaning a strong Grade 11 performance can secure your place before your final results are out. If you have your results ready but aren't sure how the math adds up, we’ve made it simple for you. Navigate to the VarsityToolkit VUT APS Calculator to get your total in seconds

English Home Language or First Additional Language at Level 4 (50–59%) required across all BEd programmes. Faculty of Law Minimum APS: 26 university floor. English at Level 4 mandatory. Law is listed as a competitive selection programme — meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place. Faculty of Management & Commerce Minimum APS: 26 university floor, with faculties able to prescribe higher. English at Level 4 required. BCom streams with Maths components will require stronger subject performance — check the Faculty Prospectus for programme-specific thresholds. Faculty of Science & Agriculture Minimum APS: 26 university floor. Faculty prescribes higher requirements per programme. Maths and Physical Science or Life Sciences are expected subject requirements for BSc streams. Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities Minimum APS: 26. English at Level 4. Some programmes may require interviews, portfolios, or written presentations — the prospectus explicitly states this is at faculty discretion. The Hidden Detail Life Orientation is included in your UFH APS — but it is capped at 4 points, no matter your mark. Even if you score 90% in LO, you get 4 points, not 7 or 8. The prospectus states this explicitly: LO is a 10-credit subject, and the university imposes a hard 4-point ceiling when calculating your APS. Most students assume a high LO mark boosts their score significantly. It does not. UFH offers merit-based fee waivers for high-scoring new undergraduates — R3,500 off tuition for APS 34–38, up to full tuition coverage for APS 48+. This is not widely advertised and is built directly into the fee schedule.

University of Zululand (UNIZULU) Prospectus 2026

Undergraduate

University of Zululand (UNIZULU) Prospectus 2026 Summary Main Campuses: KwaDlangezwa (primary) & Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal Minimum APS: 22 (Higher Certificate in Accountancy) — up to 30 (Engineering, Nursing, Law) Application Fee: R250 via CAO Closing Date: 31 October 2025 — all four faculties share the same deadline, no exceptions listed Faculty Breakdown Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences APS range: 24–28. Maths Level 5 required for Chemistry, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, and Geography/Physics combinations. BSc Foundation (4-year): APS 26. Lower subject thresholds — the access route into science for students who don't yet meet BSc standard entry. The Hidden Detail Life Orientation counts zero toward your UNIZULU APS. The brochure's own worked example shows a student scoring 68% in LO and allocating it 0 points. This is not capped like UFH; it is excluded entirely. A student who calculated their APS including LO, will have an inflated score. Recalculate without it before deciding if you qualify. You can use our free UNIZULU APS Calculator.

What is a University Prospectus?

A university prospectus is an official document published annually by each university. It contains everything you need to know about applying — available programmes, admission requirements, tuition fees, bursaries, campus life and application deadlines.

Most universities publish separate prospectuses for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Prospectuses are typically published between March and June each year for the following academic year.
