Faculty Breakdown
Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences
APS range: 24–28. English Level 4 is the baseline across all programmes.
BA Correctional Studies (APS 28): English Level 5 — the only programme in this faculty demanding a higher language threshold.
BA Psychology (APS 28): Social Science subject (Geography or History) at Level 4 required.
Diplomas (Media Studies, Public Relations, Tourism Management): APS 24. NSC Diploma endorsement accepted.
Faculty of Education
APS 26 across all BEd programmes.
IsiZulu is compulsory at Level 4 for every BEd offering — Foundation Phase, Intermediate Languages & Humanities, and Intermediate Maths/Science. You cannot enter any BEd at UNIZULU without IsiZulu.
BEd Maths, Natural Science & Technology stream: Maths Level 4 AND Physical Science Level 3 (or Maths Level 3 AND Physical Science Level 4) required.
Faculty of Commerce, Administration & Law
APS range: 22–30.
B Laws: APS 30 — the highest minimum in this faculty. English Level 4, Maths Level 3 or Maths Literacy Level 4.
BCom 3-year streams: APS 28, with Maths Literacy required at Level 6 for most commerce degrees — significantly higher than the 4-year extended versions.
BCom 4-year extended streams: APS 26, Maths Literacy Level 4. A genuine access route for students who narrowly miss the 3-year entry.
Higher Certificate in Accountancy: APS 22. Lowest entry point in the faculty.
Faculty of Science, Agriculture & Engineering
APS range: 26–30.
All BEng degrees (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electrical & Computer): APS 30. Maths Level 5 and Physical Science Level 5 — non-negotiable.
B Nursing Science: APS 30. Life Science Level 4 and Maths Level 3 (or Maths Literacy Level 4).
BSc streams: APS 28 across the board. Maths Level 5 required for Chemistry, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, and Geography/Physics combinations.
BSc Foundation (4-year): APS 26. Lower subject thresholds — the access route into science for students who don't yet meet BSc standard entry.
The Hidden Detail
Life Orientation counts zero toward your UNIZULU APS. The brochure's own worked example shows a student scoring 68% in LO and allocating it 0 points. This is not capped like UFH; it is excluded entirely. A student who calculated their APS including LO, will have an inflated score. Recalculate without it before deciding if you qualify.
