About this Prospectus

North-West University (NWU) 2027 Prospectus Summary

The North-West University (NWU) has positioned its 2027 academic session around the core philosophy of "It all starts here," emphasizing high-quality education across its three primary campuses in Mahikeng, Potchefstroom, and Vanderbijlpark. The institution is recognized for its safe and inclusive environment, vibrant student life, and world-class research facilities that contribute to a high employability rating for graduates. For the 2027 intake, the university continues to implement a merit-based selection process that considers both academic performance and the capacity limits of specific faculties.

Admission Requirements and APS Calculation

Admission to a Bachelor’s degree at NWU requires a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent with a minimum of 50% in any four 20-credit subjects. Academic merit is primarily assessed through the Admission Point Score (APS). The APS is calculated using the marks from your six best subjects in Grade 11 or Grade 12, specifically excluding Life Orientation. Each achievement level corresponds to a point value, with level 7 (80-100%) yielding 7 points, down to level 1 (0-29%) yielding 1 point. For international and Cambridge applicants, NWU provides a specific conversion table, where an A-level grade B can equate to an APS of 8, and an International Baccalaureate Higher Level grade 6 can equate to an APS of 8. Calculate your APS using our specialized APS calculator.
