What Oregon State Is Actually Offering

The Robinson Lab in Oregon State University's Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences is recruiting one graduate student, MSc or PhD, to begin in January or April 2027. The position is funded through a graduate teaching assistantship paying between $2,000 and $2,400 per month for up to 19 hours of teaching work per week.

Teaching responsibilities are delivered through OSU's online Ecampus programme, covering courses in ecology, conservation and management, and ornithology. Tips Nobody Tells You

1. Your cover letter must address the lab's specific research programme, not just your general interest in birds or ecology.

It is a filtering mechanism. Applicants who write a generic ecology cover letter and add the lab's name at the top will be immediately distinguishable from applicants who have read the lab's publications, understand the long-term dataset work, and can articulate why the bioacoustics focus on crossbills, grosbeaks, or night flight calls is specifically aligned with their research interests. 2. Proposing novel research that connects to existing lab resources is stronger than proposing something entirely new, understand what those resources are before proposing anything.
