What Is a JAMB Aggregate Score?

A JAMB aggregate score is the combined score Nigerian tertiary institutions use to decide admission — it's rarely your raw UTME score alone. Most institutions blend your JAMB/UTME result with a Post-UTME screening score, your O'Level (WAEC/NECO) results, or both.

Unlike JAMB's own cut-off mark, which is the same national minimum for everyone, the aggregate formula is set independently by each institution — and sometimes even varies between departments within the same school. That's why the same JAMB score can produce very different aggregate outcomes depending on where you're applying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there one standard JAMB aggregate formula?

No. Unlike JAMB itself, each Nigerian university sets its own aggregate formula. Some use JAMB score plus Post-UTME, some use JAMB plus O'Level results, some use all three, and the weighting given to each varies significantly between institutions.

Does my JAMB score alone determine admission?

Usually not on its own. Most institutions combine your JAMB/UTME score with either a Post-UTME screening score, your O'Level results, or both, to produce a final aggregate score used for admission decisions.

Why does the number of O'Level sittings matter?

A number of institutions apply a bonus or penalty depending on whether your five credits came from one WAEC/NECO sitting or were combined across two. This can meaningfully change your final aggregate, so check your target institution's specific rule.

What if my institution uses two different formulas?

A few institutions (like UNN, OOU and UNIABUJA) switch formulas depending on whether Post-UTME screening is conducted that admission cycle. Where this applies, our calculator shows both methods as tabs so you can check either.

How often do these formulas change?

Aggregate formulas can change between admission cycles, and can even differ by department within the same institution. Always confirm your calculated result against your target institution's official admissions portal before relying on it.

What does "General JAMB Cut-off" mean?

This is the minimum UTME score an institution will consider for screening at all, separate from your final aggregate. Scoring above the cut-off doesn't guarantee admission — it just means you're eligible to proceed to the next stage.
