Stellenbosch University (SU) 2027 Prospectus Summary
The official Stellenbosch University 2027 Undergraduate Prospectus outlines a rigorous selection criteria for the upcoming academic session. As a high-demand institution, SU explicitly states that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee placement, as all degrees are now designated as selection programmes. The 2026/2027 session is notably defined by a major shift in entrance testing and highly specific faculty formulas.
National Benchmark Tests (NBTs)
A critical update for 2027 applicants is that National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) are not required for admission to the majority of programmes. This exemption applies to most faculties; however, NBTs remain mandatory for all Faculty of Law programmes. Additionally, applicants from the School of Tomorrow, the South African-based American High School Diploma, and all online schools must still complete the NBTs. For Law applicants, the NBT AQL must be written before the 31 July deadline.
The Engineering "Selection Mark" Formula
Admission to the Faculty of Engineering relies on a specialized calculation known as the Selection Mark (SM). While the minimum NSC aggregate for Engineering is 70%, the university uses the following formula to rank candidates out of a maximum of 800 points:
Selection Mark = Mathematics % + Physical Sciences % + (6 x Matric Average). Use our free SU APS Calculator
The "Matric Average" is derived from the six best subjects excluding Life Orientation. Historically, a selection mark of 600 to 620+ has been necessary for a competitive chance of admission.
